Install problems for Windows users – no desktop icon, no entry in Program Menu

Issue – You run your software installer, enter your serial number and the process completes successfully.  However, you have no icon on your desktop and when clicking on the Start button, you find no RealData entry in the Program menu.

Solution – This is a symptom of a software install where the user on the computer does not have administrative privilege.  Follow these steps to install the software as administrator, which may require the assistance of a network administrator:

  • Right click on the RealData software installer file (eg. setupreia20.exe)
  • The User Account Control (UAC) window appears.  Click Yes to continue.
  • Enter the admin password if prompted.
  • Proceed through the steps to install the software.
  • Confirm that the program’s desktop icon is present.
